gauge swap question 88 fbird to a 84 z28
I have a 84 Z28, with a busted dash, and no interior. I also have a 88 firebird i am using as a donor for some of the interior. I was wondering if the dash and instrumentation is usable in the 84. Also I have to point out the firebird was a v6 and the z28 is a v8 (both are 5spds if it makes a different for senders) , so I am assuming some modifictation to cluster is necessary for tach. Does anyone have any ideas on what needs to be done. I do have access to cluster wiring diagrams and such.
Thanks in advance

Expect to do a lot of cross-wiring, shouldn't be too bad if you have the diagrams. The v6 tach can't be used in a v8. To make the 88 firebird speedo work, an electronic vss will need to replace the mechanical vss in the tailhousing of the tranny. Speedo gears might have to be swapped out also, not sure. Dont know if you will need the yellow vss buffer box for the speedo, i know automatics need them.
I dont think the gauges themselves are swappable, would probably have to swap out most of the dash along with the gauge cluster.

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping the tach would have been usable with a little manipulation of the circuitry. I have the tranny from the firebird still so I could probably swap out the speedo gears from there. I also have the complete dash which I would have to use as the firebird gauges are a lot longer than the camaro ones. The more I look into doing this the more headaches seem to pop up. I might just end up modifing my camaro dash.
Thanks again
