Adding Trunk pop to power trunk with no release solenoid

My 89 Camaro has power pull-down, but no release switch on the console, and no soleniod on the pull-down mechanism. I would like to add it.

Questions:

-Is the wiring already in the vehicle? (I just haven't looked yet)
-Is it as simple as adding a factory solenoid, or do I need to replace the entire assembly?

Yes it is simple to add the hatch release solenoid to your pull-down unit. Just unscrew the manual release from your pull-own unit and add the solenoid. It is held by a single 10mm screw. The cable release of it connects to the back of the lock cylinder. Just squeeze it and it will pop off with a screwdriver. Be sure to add the ground wire from that 10mm screw to the ground location on the body just below the pull-down unit. The solenoid has a single black wire that supplies +12v from the switch and relay. Your Camaro Service manual will list the wiring schematic for how to wire the switch to the relay and solenoid. If you can't find a solenoid release I have it available as TDS 404080.

Wow that price is certainly nice enough. Remote hatch release is soooo nice. Great to tie into a keyless entry system. I did it on my car, took about 20 minutes to install, the wire was easy to run underneath the side panels as well.

Thanks, I miss my trunk pop!!! This is my 3rd 3rd Gen Camaro, and my second '89 camaro... first one without trunk release though.

Anyone want to know why I'm adding it???

I got pulled over last night because I left my plate flipped down

In my case there was a large silver sorta tubelike item on the back of the unit with a single wire coming out (maybe black). Should be easy to spot, held on with a pair of screws.

Click on the blue colored TDS 404080 in my prior post. Yes the single black wire to the solenoid is the hot wire that actuates it. Pull that wire all the way back to the switch and relay. Also get the ground wire that connects to the 10mm screw.
