OK I think I had a breakthru - all I need to know is how to remove the small vats wires from the lock cylinder so I can thread them through the column

You don't disconnect the wires from the lock cylinder. You disconnect the wire harness at the base of the steering column under the dash and attach a string or wire to them and pull the wire up through the column after loosening the steering column support bolts slightly. You then take the new lock cylinder wires and attach it to the string or wire that you pulled through the column and guide the new wires through that way. Simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The connector on the end of my lock cylinder wires was just heavy enough to drop down the column. The area the wires go through has an inch or so clearance.
