Help with power windows
I just bought a 92 RS with a 305 TBI. The windows don't work and I'm trying to trace down the problem (hoping not to have to replace the motors) I've already replaced the circuit breakers and fuse. My next try is the relay, which leads me to my question(s) 1. Is there a relay at all? None of the diagrams show one for the windows 2. If there is, where is it located? Console, firewall, dash, etc. I did a search on the message board and couldn't find what I needed. Thanks!

whoa sparky, slow down here.
check the wiring diagram for your power window switches:
pop off one of your power window switches, and see how corroded the tangs are. use a voltmeter, probe the tangs, while pushing down the button (use the continuity setting) and make sure that's working ok. Or replace the switch (most common problem)
Using paper clips, jump power and ground into the socket (for the power window switch), and see if the motor moves. if so, it's the switch, if not, it's probably in the door.
if still no go, take off your door panel (easiest when window is down, so....), and remove the electrical plug on the bottom of your power window motor. hook up a power probe (lights up with voltage), and hit your switch and see if the terminals on the plug are getting power and ground when you hit the switch. if no power, then there's something wrong between ( i'm pretty sure there's no relay though, so looked for cut wires in your door jamb area).
if power (2nd most likely situation), then use short pliers or a short flat blade screwdriver, and bend the tangs on the bottom of your power window motor, and remove the plastic cap. Careful for small parts that WILL fly apart and disappear. clean and lube your window tracks, (lithium grease), and replace your power window motor brushes.
That checklist will cure 99% of power window problems, replacing the motor will fix the other 1%. The motor wears out VERY slowly, usually it's just the brushes.

that's either an obstruction, causing it to need mega power to move, or, more likely, you need to lube your tracks, and replace the brushes.
Easiest is to go to the wreckers, and snag some off a rear window on a 4 door, or wagon, where it's barely been used. That's what I did on one side of mine.
Or, pull yours out, and go to an electric motor rebuilder, and tell them you need some electric motor brushes the same size. I found some, I think they're from a ford alternator or something...? Two stacked together, fit perfectly.
