headlight ****, and how you get it off?

I ordered some whiteface gauges for my 92 camaro and i need to get a few of the dash parts off. I got everything unclipped and ready to come off but i cant , to save my life, figure out how to get the headlight **** off so i can get the rest of the parts off to take out the instrument cluster. If anyone knows how or knows someone who knows how to get it off please help me and let me know. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey man, there is a small button on the bottom of the headlight switch housing. To access it, you have to remove your instrumant cluster. Not a problem considering that is the area you are working on. With the cluster removed, pull the switch out to the on position, reach around the switch housing and push the button. While holding it, the switch should pull right out. Hope this helps.

Wait, I just reread your post. You can't get the cluster off?

You should be able to access the cluster by removing the dash pad, the left front speaker brace, and lowering the steering column. Haynes suggests removing the wheel also, but I have easily taken out my gauges without doing so. It would make it a lot less cramped though. I don't think removing the headlight **** will benefit you in any way regarding this procedure.

his car is a 90-92 so he needs to remove the **** to get the gauge trim panel off so he CAN remoove the gauges.

baisically you just pull it off.
pull the switch to the on position and than pull till it comes off.

thats how i did it on my 91 rs.
the way its held on is by a triangular metal fitting that fits into the ****. its just an interference fit. it slides on and off.

On my 91 I couldn't just pull the **** out. If you take off the trim panel below, take a phillips screwdriver and push the small button on the underside of the headlight switch, This will release the ****. You must push the button while pulling the ****. You can just push in the **** when all is said and done.

Ok I just removed my trim panel today so I can tell you for sure that the easiest way of removing the headlight **** is to take off the little trim panel where the fog light switch would be, and use a flathead screwdriver to reach into the space behind it. You have an RS so you probably dont have fog lights. There is a small metal button underneath the headlight switch, about 2 inches into that empty space. It looks kinda like a button head screw without any grooves. While the headlight switch **** is in the on position, push up on that button with the screwdriver and pull the **** out. It will probably take a few tries.

Also make sure you are pushing the button up hard enough. Its kinda dark in there so it will be hard to see. To put the **** back in just slide it in all the way, simple as that. Good luck

so is this "button" on the underside of the actual ****? i couldnt seem to find mine. im having the same problem. im swaping out my 110 speedo for a 145. and all thats stopping me is that darn ****.

ALL I WANT TO DO IS REMOVE THE ****, NOT THE WHOLE ON/OFF SWITCH.

Re: headlight ****, and how you get it off?

On a 90-92 cluster, you need to remove the small piece where the fog light switch would normally be (this should just pop right off). Once you have that off using a long broad tip flat head screw driver, you will need to push the small metal button on the underside of the switch itself, inside the dash. If you use a flashlight you can look in through the hole where the fog light switch would be to see the button. Once you have an idea where the button is, use the screw driver to push it and then pull the **** out.

There is a small metal clip inside the black **** itself, simply pull the headlight switch out and you can see where you will need to depress a tab with a small flat head screwdriver. If your sitting in the drivers seat just pull the tip of the screwdriver towards you. once you get it off you won't believe how simple it is.
