starting problem.

O.K. I've a 84z 305h.o. carbed, totally rebuilt, all edelbrock intake/carb/ cam etc. also accell distrib. car has barley 500 miles on it since rebuild. there is no computer of any type in the car. Twice already I've taken it out and maybe drive it no more than a couple miles, shut it off and go to start it maybe ten minutes later and all it does is crank over. Now Im getting fuel and its not flooding out, Sometimes it will restart but I did notice Im getting no spark to the cylinders. Im thinking that maybe the dizzy module is bad or coil or rotor, Im going to replace the ignition parts and take it out for a ride and see if it wants to restart after bringing it back home. A short while back I did have a seroius ground prob. and starter issue, which may have affected the ignition parts, anyone have some input?? And even tho- everything is new on this car doesnt mean they cant prematurly wear out, right? Thanks.

Do you have an Accel HEI distributor? Separate or integral coil?

Make sure you check the pickup coil resistance as well. You should read between 500-1,500 ohms. 850 ohms is perfect. Check it when hot, or as ASAP after it dies.

Appreciate the help, The module in my distributer was bad, replaced it with another, basically the whole thing, cap rotor coil etc., even though it was new that part went bad. Starts pretty good now, and all I want to do now is tweek the fuel adjustment going to the carb and wheir good to go!
