Headlight Help
I have just purchased a 96 Firebird Formula WS6 but I figured what's going on with my 4th gen some of you 3rd gen owners might know the answer too. Apparently, under the flip up headlight there is a bushing that stops the motor from spinning to keep the headlight up or something (I'm not too sure if this is right). Well I guess one of those have gone out so when I turn on or off the headlights one of the headlights goes up and down about 6 times then I have to manually open it. I just wanted to see if you guys knew where I could get one of those parts or if its something else that I'm overlooking. Thanx alot for you help.
The fact that one works fine and the other acts 'floppy' indicates that the electronics are functioning properly.
Sounds like the plastic gear in the headlight motor is probably worn out and missing a few teeth.
Replacement motors are pricey....
There is a kit available for 3rd gen cars to open up the motor and replace the gear with a new one. Those are available at
Top-DownSolutions.com
Search their site or give them a call, maybe they have those for 4th gen's as well.

As an afterthought...
Some 3rd gen'rs have done this fix...
Open up the motor
slip the gear out
turn it 180 degrees and put it back in
reassemble the motor
This places the 'good side' of the gear into position to engage the headlight gear.
This, of course, is a temp fix because if one side of the gear is brittle and broken, the other side isn't far behind.
