HP hei conversion problem

I yanked my computer controlled hei and literally crammed in a noncomputer flamethrower in my 89rs with a 305 tbi. I got power to the coil but no spark. Is there a secret mojo wire to disconnect? am i still under control by the ecu? I'm pretty new to efi electronics and all the stock crap is still under the hood. its like reading a chinese newspaper. could use some advice from all you efi and ecu gurus.

Is this the large cap HEI or small, because the large caps have an internal metal connector that connects to the coil, that could be broken. One possibility anyway.
