HEI Distributor

First of all I want to say how great this site is and how much the knowledgeable people of this group have helped me extremely in getting this 82 Camaro going. Thank YOU!

Alright, I have taken the wiring harness from an 88 firebird and installed it into this 82 camaro. Everything has gone ehh, kind of smoothly. I beleive the 88 firebird had the ESP distributor (?). I have placed an 81 Chevy Vette 350 engine in the camaro and have an HEI distributor. Can anyone help me with the wiring on this distributor please. Also what kind of coil do I need for this distributor.

My 15yr old son and I are fixing this car up together for him and it's as new to me as it is to him. I have very limited experience in working on cars, so some of my questions may be kind of elementary, but I do appreciate all the help that you guys have given us.

does your distributer from the vette look like this?

if it does then there should be a pink wire (+12V from switch or ign.) that goes in at the top where the other wires do. there is a white wire for the tach that also goes there. the black part is the coil.

YES! That's it! Thank you so much for your help on the wiring. Couldn't have done it with out your help. As for the coil...hehe..I bought one yesterday for this distributor and pull the instructions out and found out that the coil was on top...man...lot's to learn. Got my $35 back, though! Last car I worked on was in 1983 and it was a '69 Mustang...coil was completely different...This Chevy stuff is completely new to me.

Again, thanks for your help
