Electric fan gremlin
Electric fan gremlin
Hi everyone--
Just noticed that my cooling fans were not coming on at all...Since this car was bought as a project (87 IROC 350 TPI), here is what I do know...When I bought the car over the summer, I was told that the previous owner had wired the fans (dual electric) to come on with the ignition, allowing it to run all the time. I did find a relay attached to the wiring coming from both fans..Could this be the culprit? Just trying to fix the obvious first..Thanks for any help...Ryan
p/s Car is A/C delete as well....

Yes check for burnt wires, fuses, and tap that relay on the body of the car. If the relay clicks its getting power its just sticking and wont close to allow the fans to come on. Also a bad socket connection could keep it from coming on.
You could probably remove the relay from the socket and hot wire it to see if the fans are working or not, but you need to know where all the wires go.
From the factory these cars normally had the fans come on by the ECM energizing the relay.

One option for you is to buy a fan control switch,Derale makes one part# is 16749,it is variable temp sensor, has wires for 2 fans, and comes with the relay.
I have this one on my car and it works very well.
