Bought a mess !!

I recently just purchased an 89 pontiac firebird formula to compliment my 86 Z. Well what a mess I have , the owner had lost the keys to the car and I had to replace the lock cylinder. When I went to the dealer he couldnt find the correct vats code for my car so he explained how to relearn the computer. I did as he instructed and I know hear the fuel pump kick on but the security light stays on and the car will not turn over.I have tried to bypass the starter relay but to no avail. How do I get rid of the vats system and unleash this bird on the streets!!

the lock cylinder should have had 2 white wires o n it ( at least passkey 2 do's same as vats cept second gen)

Measure the resistance between those, find a resister the same, solder it together and crank her over

the guy at the dealer was wrong, there is no relearn for the old VATS systems.

to get VATS to work without the right key is not fun,

to do away with VATS,
you can use the wiring diagram about half way down on the page above to find out how to get around the stater disable relay if you have one. you'll just need to make a jumper wire & put it in to bypass it.

there are 2 ways around for fuel enable.
first is to burn a prom with VATS turned off, if you can't do that then you need one of these,

if your talking about putting the resistor inside the connector under the dash on the car side of the harness, i see no problem doing if that side is the female side of that connector.

it won't be fun without the original key, its trail & error.
you will have to get a full set of resistors to match all of the keys & go through them one at a time.
you may have to through it 2 or 3 times.
