The rear hatch motor on my 89 formula runs but will not lift up or pull it dpwnany suggestions

 

If Your motor is running, and it isn't going up or down is because of the following. A. The plastic tooth gear that is attach to the motor is stripped ,or B. The plastic guides that pull the hatch down are busted and that they are stuck. I had the same problem on my 86 trans am. I hate to say this, but everyone that has a third gen firebird or camaro has at least seen this problem, but any questions feel free man. I'm here for ya.
