Greetings GM gurus, the problem is, when the car is in idle (idles rough by the way, i'm still working on that) the temp gauge is fine, if i rev the engine, still fine, but once the car is in drive and accelerating, the temp gauge just climbs and climbs and makes it look like the car has overheated, but if you take your foot off the accelerator, the gauge returns to the actual temperature of the engine....is the temp sending unit grounded, ungrounded or just possesed? any help appreciated.

Sender provides a variable ground to the guage. It's located on the driver's side head and has a single wire connector. Make sure the connection's tight and the wire insulation is not melted or burned through and grounding somewhere under engine torque or movement. Grounding the wire sends a 'full hot' signal to the guage.

 

Mine did the same thing and all it was, was that the gauge was loose in the housing. I removed the plastic covers and repositioned the gauge back in the cluster and replaced one of the missing screws. Everything was great after that.
