Did i find it !
Many people have told me on the origanal lock cylinders there would be numbers to tell me the resistance of my vats well I have found it and on the side is stampped 1469 could this be it

you can take an DVOM and read the resistance of the Pellet in the key, all it is is a resistor. the values are here. The code you tell the dealer is 1 thru 15 depending on the resistance you read and they will know what you need.
Be advised that the resistances of the key can change but if you aren't having any problems then you will be ok doung it this way.

There are 15 possible resistance values that were used by GM.
1) 402 ohms (acceptable range 386-438)
2) 523 ohms (acceptable range 502-564)
3) 681 ohms (acceptable range 650-728)
4) 887 ohms (acceptable range 850-942)
5) 1130 ohms (acceptable range 1085-1195)
6) 1470 ohms (acceptable range 1411-1549)
7) 1870 ohms (acceptable range 1795-1965)
8) 2370 ohms (acceptable range 2275-2485)
9) 3010 ohms (acceptable range 2890-3150)
10) 3740 ohms (acceptable range 3590-3910)
11) 4750 ohms (acceptable range 4560-4960)
12) 6040 ohms (acceptable range 5798-6302)
13) 7500 ohms (acceptable range 7200-7820)
14) 9530 ohms (acceptable range 9149-9931)

that makes it tough without the original key. that number is usually just the key code for cutting the key. The VATS module is the only thing that cares about the resistance in the key. You might find it easiest to go to a JY and find a VATS module with the key. You might check with the parts dept at your local dealer they might have a different idea before you get knee deep at a JY. From my time working at GM dealerships we usually had to replace the Module and cut a new key.
