Steering column help PLEASE...
Ok, so I pulled off my steering column due to the fact that A. my horns didnt work, B. my brights switch didn't work, and C. My steering had slop. Ok, so I found out the MORON who owned my car previously had ust gone in there with God only knows what kind of tools, and mutilated stuff. Well, I bought replacements for all the mutilated stuff and well...I know how it goes back together, but it just wont go. the dimmer switch bar just falls out of place, or this little plastic peice, or other crap. nd when I finally get Gm's shitstorm of a steering column back together the ignition cylinder wont turn so i turn the thing inside to line it up, and then the steering lock rod thing wont come out and causes the spring inside the little turn gear to pop out and then i have to start back over again. I've spent about 8 hours straight trying to fix this and IU'm fed up of it, I'm about to sell the car. This steering column is cauing me to not even be able to start my car.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Should I just buy a new one?
BTW: Its a non-cruise control car, with tilt wheel, and a 1991 with airbag.

they can be a pain to put back together sometimes.
i'll try to explain how i do this part.
put the dimmer rod in place in the dimmer switch. take the dimmer switch actuator (21) & put a little grease on the cover (24) where the actuator sits at to hold the actuator to the cover. slid the actuator up on the cover to the stop. gently put the cover on with the switch actuator stuck to it. make sure you have the bottom of the actuator on top of the rod. just before the cover is on all the way the actuator will probably hang up, with a small screw driver unhang it & the cover should sit down properly.
like most anything in life, the more you do it, the easier it gets. it took me longer to type this out than it does for me to do this part of the job.
