Tach drops at 2k

Car: 1988 Firebird
Engine: 2.8 liters of fury.
Transmission: Auto
Axle/Gears: Stock
Tach drops at 2k
Anyone have any insight as to why my Tach stops working at 2000. It works fine all the way up until then whether you ease it up to there or stomp it, it refuses to go past 2k. Any ideas?
