Factory digital tach problems

Transmission: T-5-manual
Axle/Gears: 3:45
Factory digital tach problems
My tachometer drops to zero when I rev it in neutral or give er while rollin. It will go up to around 1800 rpm then drop like it lost contact. When I am just cruzin its fine and registers correctly. Any help would be appreciated.
