ecm questions

ok well after testing every stinkin wire on my car we finally traced it to the computer being toast. So my question is what computers can i use? i have a 1986 Camaro 2.8 with an automatic tranny. I figured like one out of another camaro of the same year or close would work or maybe even a S10 computer. and another question does anyone have one for sale that would work or could you maybe point in the right direction as to who might have one... I already checked Advanced Auto and Autozone, and neather is looking good... thanks guys

Re: ecm questions

Hi

You might want to repost this question in the DFI-ECM forum, a little further down the page.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/dfi-ecm/

AC Delco does have a remanufactured ECM for you car. Their site is

www.acdelco.com

The AC Delco Part Number is 88999128 for a 1226870 ECM. Note that this ECM was used on a number of Chevy and Pontiac veichels from 1985 - 1989. One thing you can do at the Delco site is generate a cross reference list of all cars that ECM was used on. Seems like there were 42 or so. A good list to have if going to the junk yard You should also be able to go to your local GM dealer with the ECM number and your VIN to see if they can locate a unit. (Most likley remanufactured)

So I expect you should be able to find one in a junk yard, but the car you take if from should have the same engine, tranny, ac or non ac, etc. so all the inputs and outputs match. I believe that even though the ECM was the same in a number of car the programed memory was different, depending on the engine and options on the car.

Good luck on getting your car running again.

Dave

Re: ecm questions

You're memcal (the programming chip) is most likely fine. Just find another 1227730 ecm and swap the chip! if not, I have a 1986 2.8l computer (1227730) for a t-5 transmission that I can sell to you.

Edit-
found this little gem for you
