TDS's 82-86 Headlight kit.

This post is for anyone who has used the brass gear to replace the stock plastice one, or Lon of Top-down Solutions, if he would like to asnwer.

The repair kit is great. Instructions are detailed, the quality of the gear is second to none. My problem was just with the fact that brass conducts electricity, and the stock plastic gear does not.

Whenever I turn the headlight switch off, the taillight fuse blew. I traced the problem to the gear conducting electricy. For the split second when the stop on the motor shaft hits the high torque switch with current still flowing, current was sent thourgh the shaft, then it went through all the gears, into the headlight assembly. Then it shorted to the chassis, blowing the fuse.

I fixed the problem by insulating the contact in the high torque switch so that no metal to metal contact is made, but I was just curious if anyone has had this problem.

bump.

Still wondering if I'm the only one to have this problem...

It's been fixed for months, but I'd still like to know if it's happened to anyone else.
