Re: ECM Problems

Hm, no replies..? Well, you might have figured it all out by now but I'll just pull something from the top of my head here. On the case of the ECM there should be a number like 1228079 for instance, and there could also be a number starting with 16... These are reffering to the same ECM model. Under a lid there should be a removable chip labelled with three or four letters and presumably four numbers, like BUA9340 for instance. We usually refer to the ECM as a 079 and the chip as a BUA, but use the full numbers for unambiguity. The examples I used here are not neccesssarily related to your car. Check out Moates and Ludis's sites if you want to find what is supposed to be in your car. Hth.

Re: ECM Problems

for the chip, you can find one from a donor car in a junkyard. My Camaro threw a code 51 at me a while ago, and I found another car, same engine, same intake system, same transmission, A/C, all the same options, and it worked great.

The ECM is located behind the passenger side kick panel, take it off, it's mounter vertically. On it will be the model number and there will be a small cover with 2 bolts, take off the bolts, pull the cover off (can be a little hard to pull off if it's never been off before) and the black chip with the black plastic around it is the prom. Just be careful when removing it and make sure to install it the proper direction. (it should only fit on way, don't force it.
