very very odd VATS/ steering wheel issue

I bought a 90 Camaro RS with the 305 tbi/automatic. Since the day i bought it, a few mounths ago, to start it you had to push up on the loose steering wheel while turning the key to start it. The key works regular in all positions except for start. Well, today my procrastination caught up to me. I got in, turn the key and pushed up on the steering wheel...nothing. Everything else worked fine on the car, just no start. So i jacked the car up and with the key in the "on" position and crossed over the solenoid. The motor turned, but no start. From what i have read, i think the problem is the Vats wires finaly came disconnected from the ignition, and the car is no longer reading the key, so i am going to try the resistor and see if that fixes it... HOWEVER, this is the first time ive encountered this problem, and just wanted to see what others think of the situation. BTW the car is in a parking lot, and all work will have to be done there. well thx for reading and also an suggestions.

Welcome Aboard!

It could be VATS, or it could be that you finally need to repair the loose steering column so the switch linkage can do its job.

Search the forums. You should find detailed instructions for repairing the steering column.
