i have a 91 camaro rs that i am restoring into a 92 z28. i have a huge chilton service manual that covers everything ALMOST, except the wiring diagram for the hatch pulldown release assembly and a few other things that im finding i am thinking that i have it rigged up correct but when i give the release power (blue wire from the red and white wire) the release itself keeps engaging and disengaging it doesnt stop until i remove power without having the release button hooked up... btw, the wires from the switch arent the same color as any in the hatch area. i really need a wiring schematic diagram and a little input on whats wrong.

 

i just looked at my buddy's firebird and his wire going to the release is black i had it hooked up wrong but still dont work right. need help!

 

There were two styles of pull-down motor used in 1991. Describe which you have. Does it have a metal frame that attaches to the body of the car or does it have a tan-colored plastic frame? This info is necessary to give the correct answer.

Ok, metal frame to the pull-down assembly means yours is the early 91 style. I don't understand what you mean by it keeps engaging and disengaging. If the motor continues to run when powered, then the gear nut is bad. Otherwise the pull-down unit would reach the end of either the up or down cycle and shut off. I sell it as 109111, $7. Read either the Tech article I wrote on thirdgen.org or the instructions for the 101170 nylon guides on the lower right-hand side of my web site to understand how to correctly disassemble it to replace the gear nut. The release button is powered on a separate circuit from the pull-down and only operates the solenoid to release the hatch hook from the latch.

the reason the release kept engaging (popping) was because that was constant power i believe the relay is a double action type, and the release will engage by a ground wire and not a hot. this is why my buddy's firebird has a black going to his release. Lon, i am not talking about the pull down motor, that doesnt work at all i dont think. i wish it would but....I think what i really need is a wiring diagram from the fuse panel back

 

The wiring diagram for the hatch release switch is on pages 8A-134-0 & 1 of your Camaro Service Manual. Pages 8A-134-2 & 3 give the trouble shooting, system diagnosis, system check, component location, tests 1, 2 & 3 to run and circuit operation description. I don't completely get what you sent me. what i ended with at the end of that link was another link to buy a service manual. i dont know if this is what you sent or not, but i already have a Chiltons service manual that doesn't cover this. Um thanks for tryin anyway i guess. i see everyone else that gets wiring diagrams all they need is their email but it doesnt get posted for the public this site needs to put all the wiring diagrams in its own page on this site with links and everyone can view instead of e-mailing the same diagram ALL THE TIME.. since i am probably going to stay consistant with this subject until something good happens, somebody might as well just go ahead and e-mail it to me. lol thanks any help is apprediated

all i need is a rear hatch area wiring diagram fro m the fuse panel back... or whatever they have on the wiring of the hatch area for a 1991 metal frame hatch pull-down release motor. thanks.. my e-mail is camaro355cdi@aol.com by the way....... just in case........
