VATS + Scanner Question
Im starting to have a problem with my VATS I think, but before I go and bypass it, I wanted to make sure. If I attach my MT2500 SnapOn Scanner to my 1992 Pontiac Firebird, will it tell me anything about my VATS?
Ultimately I'd like to get it deprogrammed from my computer, but I have no idea how to do it, and the quote I was quoted for that (and some performance upgrades) was pretty pricey.

Re: VATS + Scanner Question
the brick should give you a code if the ECM thinks there is a problem with your VATS. the only code i see listed for you car is 46 which means the ECM didn't see a signal from the VATS module.
i don't remember if the scanner will give you an indication if fuel is disabled or not.
see what the security light is doing when you think its acting up.
after i got my motor in & running, i wanted to have VATS removed & a few other things done to my chip. the best price i found was $150.00 plus parts just to have VATS removed.
i started to look around & found this site & started to learn about chip tuning.
i spent a little over $400.00 for the burning stuff i got. im glad i didn't waste my money on a chip someone else did for me that would never be right for my car, other wise i wouldn't be hitting 29 MPG highway now.
for about what you would pay for an after market chip, you can be burning you own chips. depending on how far you want to go, the BURN1 goes for 85.00, some chips & a ZIF about 15.00~20.00, 35.00 for the G1 Memory Adapter, & 80.00 for the ALDU1+CABL1 Combo to data log with a laptop puts you around $230.00 or so & you can do your own tuning when ever you want to.
doing it your self will get you a better running car over all.
once you use a laptop & Tuner Pro to do a data log, you'll see just how bad that MT2500 is.

i got all my chip tuning stuff from http://www.moates.net/

he can help you with the specifics on what you need.
he is a busy guy, so it may take some time before he gets back to you through e-mail.
i do highly recommend being able to do real time emulation, you can make a change to your bin file & up load it to your ECM with the motor running & see what happens. the Ostrich & AutoProm both do real time emulation.
with the Ostrich you can load a bin into it & run your car off of it without a laptop hooked up to it. to make a change to the bin, you do need a laptop.
with the AutoProm you must have it hooked up to a computer with TunerPro running to run the car. when doing this with the AutoProm, make certain you have all power management stuff turned off & your screen saver is turned off, other wise your car will shut off when your computer goes into herbernation or screen saver mode .
the Ostrich does not burn chips, the AutoProm does.
i believe the Ostrich is more for someone who already has an ALDL cable & a chip burner but wants to do real time emulation.
my recommendation for some one starting out would be to go with the AutoProm.
thats the way i went & i have no regrets doing it.
i don't know if the Ostrich comes with a license for TunerPro or not, the AutoProm does.
i believe the GP1 Package for $55.00 & the AutoProm for $325.00 will be pretty much every thing you need to burn your own chips for a 7730 ECM.
