distributor?
distributor?
hey all, i recently acquired an 89 rs camaro. has a 90 or 91 tbi truck 350 engine in it thats 20 over. ive got a couple questions. i took it to the track and ran her a few times. first, when i mash it , it goes, but the engine breaks up sometimes past 5000rpm. it has a crane hi6 fireball ignition. im not sure what kind of distributor it has in it. could it possibly be because of a stock distributor, and if so, what aftermarket distributor could i use to replace it. looks to be a stock remote mount coil also. could that be another prob? last question is this: does my car have a speed limiter on it? it cut out somewhere around 100mph. im not exactly sure of mph cuz it has 373 gears and the speedo is off. it cut out then came back after it slowed a few mph, and when it went back to 100 or so, it cut out again. is there a way to disable this? thnx so much for any help, im pretty new at this

Re: distributor?
It sounds like you might need to get into chip burning? Or check where you are at with data logging and a wideband O2. A .020 motor over probably needs more fuel. Also it is likely that the cam is not stock. That means custom chip time!

Re: distributor?
One thing to look at....
Check the distributor cap and rotor.. I was using OEM GM caps with aluminum contacts and they would develop this white corrosion after only a year.. I'd wind up with a bad miss... I was replacing caps and rotors every spring as part of my pre season tune up.
I tried an Accel cap and rotor.. These have brass contacts instead of aluminum. It's going strong after 3 years (I just checked it last week)..
