Power windows on the fritz

Engine: 421 Little M block
Transmission: TH400 w/brake
Axle/Gears: 9" 4.30s, Wilwood discs, 28X10.5-15
Power windows on the fritz
1988 Formula
Driver's side window is acting up.
Window motor appeared ok.
Circuit breaker OK.
Window switch burned up..hmmm
I replaced both switches several years ago.. I swapped the passenger one to get the driver's side glass shut and visually observed the switch starting to smoke when closed.
So there is an obvious short, first one in 14 years.
I have owned it since 1993. Question is where to start the search?
Didn't some these cars have a problem with the harness chaffing at the doors from brand new?
Any insight would be helpful.
