no gauges after swap
no gauges after swap
i've had the car for a week now its an 88 camaro and bought it with the gauges not working. They put a carb. 350 and removed the computer. When im cranking it the gauges will move but once started they wont work. the fuel goes all the way up the rpms go up the speed stays down nothing moves. The volt meter works tho. What could be wrong? How do i take off the cluster? i removed the outer plastic piece but didnt have time to figure the rest. i tried to trace the wires under the hood but its such a mess i dont know where anything is since there is no computer

Re: no gauges after swap
When they put the new engine in, they might not have hooked up any sensors. You'd need to look for sensors on the engine (coolant temp, oil pressure) and check the wires.
The fuel gauge won't be affected by an engine swap. Any chance the gas tank is just full?
If the tach shoots up and stays there, you got a bad tachometer gauge.
And the speedometer is operated by a cable from the transmission tailhousing. You'd need to find it on the tailhousing and make sure that it's connected.
Hope this helps.

Re: no gauges after swap
Yeah i guess things are just not connected because there is unplugged wires everywhere in the engine bay. But the fuel isnt full, the gauge just doesnt move. it has aftermarket gauges , like the tach, oil, and water temp and they work. so im really only concerned about the fuel. I know im wasting way to much money on gas because i keep filling up everyday so i dont run out lol
