Vacume activated Electrical switch
Ok, I have this Cross Fire, Z28 hood on my 91. Its awesome, fiberglass, and with the electronics that open the scoops all intact. I plan on putting a K & N air filtration system with an "Xstream" lid (allowing air to flow from above) which would rock hard core when used with the hood.
Making the flaps open was easy, the wiring was intact, so I tied it into the ignition. Once I turn the key on, the flaps open. Thats fantastic and all, but what would be kick *** is if they only opened when I have my foot deep in the throttle.
Budget is everything here, so I tried to make a switch that would only complete the circuit when it closes. I used a piece of the hot air intake, but I had never saughtered anything before so I had no idea how hard it would be, so I rushed out and bought some saughter.
My father had to help me out, and between us, we could get that 25 watt saughtering gun to work on this piece. The final result, the wires were trying to fall off, and even when hooked up to vacume, the sucker still completed the circuit. In other words, I spent all evening working of this and accomplished nothing.

Instead of soldering wires with a tiny cold soldering iron, you could put a microswitch on it. They cost a few bucks only. That would eliminate the soldering problem.
Then I'd hook it up to ported vacuum instead of engine vacuum. It would make more sense if you want it to switch only when your foot is all the way down.
Or you could just put the microswitch on the throttle bracket and adjust it to come on when you hit certain throttle position (like 80% or so). That would eliminate the vacuum problems.
