Bypassing P/N Switch And wiring help needed.

I know this has been brought up a lot and I did a search on it and came up with nothing helpful. I'm not new to wiring. Just new to Camaro wiring.

Heres my problem. I bought an '88 tpi motor and full harness (int and ext). The car the harness came out of was an automatic and I am using my T-5 manual. I'm in the process for completing the interior harness and I can seem to figure out how to bypass the P/N switch. I've found various diagrams but nothing really that helpful. If possible I would like to wire it so you have to have the clutch pushed in to start the car. I still have my old harness so i can use those connectors and stuff if I need to. Any help on this issue would be great.

Another problem. The 700r4 pigtail on the engine harness. What wires do i need in order to make my backup lights work?? Once again I still have the old harness. Any way I can splice it to work with my backup lights??

The hatch motor in my '86 has a different harness than what came out of the '88 IROC. What color is the wire that supplies power to the hatch motor?? It seems to be different from '86 to '88. Oh and btw no connectors or anything have been cut off the new harness. just the grounds.

And if I'm correct... the wire colors for the fog lights on the '88 iroc are blue with a white stripe and black?? I seem to be missing or cannot find the pigtail for the radio as well. There are a lot of big differences in the two harnesses. I really need your help to get my car back up and running again.

Thanks.

Re: Bypassing P/N Switch And wiring help needed.

For the AUTO cars there is a Gear Selector Switch connector which was located in the console of the car. It should have six wires to it. YEL (yellow) and PPL (purple) for the START circuit. In a manual car these two wires go to a switch on the clutch. This switch is closed when the clutch pedal is depressed to permit the car to start. You will need to disconnect these two wires from the Gear Selector Switch connector and pull them back through the harness to the clutch pedal and hook them up to a Clutch Start Switch.

The DR BLU (dark blue) and LT GRN (light green) wires from the same connector are for the back up lights. For a manual tranny they are connected to a connector/switch which plugs into the tranny itself. I am not sure where this switch/connector will be on the T-5.

The last pair of wires may be OR BLK (orange black) and BLK WH (black white) which in my 82 go to the ECM module.

For the hatch wiring, see message #9 in this thread for a schematic. It will show the wiring for both AUTO and MANUAL trannys. Note that for the AUTO tranny, the YEL and PPL wires are the same ones for the P-N start circuit.

I have to scan the wiring diagram for the backup lights. For the manual tranny the Dr Blu and Lt Grn wires got to the tranny by passing through the C100 connector in the firewall on the driver"s side of the car. They then followed one of the harness to the manual transmission connector. I think the switch is internal to the manual transmission. I will try to post it tomorrow evening.

OK

Here is the backup light wiring diagram for the 82 2Camaro. GM changed the connector numbers and connector terminals over the years for this circuit, but the wire colors remained the same. Consider this diagram as guidance in how the circuit may be routed in the harness you have.

You might also want to check out this link for wiring diagrams at the Austin ThirdGen. org web site. The body wiring diagrams have the lighting circuits and are usually independent of the engine type.
