Guage Cluster Voltage and LEDs
Guage Cluster Voltage and LEDs
Hi,
I followed the directions on the tech articles to make my own led replacements for the guages. Put the cluster back and the led's wouldn't light. put a meter to the connections and I am only seeing 8.64 volts. there is no change if i turn the headlight "dimmer" ****. WTF? Shouldn't it be 12-13.5 volts? Its an 84 camaro.
Thanks,
Kerry

Well, there's something wrong, obviously.. The LED's should light (did you put them in the right way around?) and the dimmer should be able to vary the voltage (something like 6-12V). If the dimmer has little or no load then it won't reduce the voltage much, if anything at all, below 12V. Try to verify your meter's accuracy by measuring at a spot with "known" 12V.
13.5V can only be present with the engine running.
