Radio and heater control panel lights

The radio and heater controls on my '91 TA are not illuminated when the lights are on. Are there internal lamps in these units that may have blown over the years or is this area of the dash supposed to be illuminated by the small lamp in the bottom of the rear view mirror (which also does not light)?

The car is a convertible built as a '91 in mid 1990. I have found several things that are "different" than what the manuals tell me and I suspect it is due to the early production date or the way that ASC did the conversion to a convertible. This may be why the mirror light does not work (the bulb is good, it just does not get power when the lights are turned on).

Would someone owning a '91, preferably a convertible, tell me the light source on their car so I can narrow down the troublshooting? Thanks.

Have you really received no replies? I have the same issue and know there are bulbs, but don't know size yet.

Wow! You really looked up this thread that is over 10 years old? The bulbs are mounted on the circuit board that mounts behind the gauge cluster. You must disassemble the cluster to get to it. Once you get to the board, the bulbs just plug into it. I have long since forgotten the bulb number and my spares are in a storage shed that I will try to get to in the next week or so. I'll provide the number when I find them.

As for the mirror light, I have not ever traced the circuit but I got around the issue by mounting a lamp that was used in my 1985 Bird on the bottom of the middle panel in the dash that holds the fog lamp and bass boost audio switches.

I'll be in touch.

Re: Radio and heater control panel lights

The bulbs for the heater panel (and gear panel on manual trans cars) are #74 push in lamps. The dash panel lights mounted to the dash panel circuit board are bulb & socket type that twist into the bulb opening on the circuit board. The only one I have is not in the car but I can only read a partial bulb number from it. It shows HT U2 19? ?8 (? is a character I cannot read). Hope this helps.

Wow! You reached back over 10 years to find this???

I never got any answer so I took apart the heater module and fountd the lamps in the sockets burned out as I expected. The bulbs are #74 (push in type). Just pull the panel, disassemble to expose the bulb sockets and replace the bulbs with new.
