85 Dash Gauge Foul
85 Dash Gauge Foul
I have recieved a 1985 Berlinetta Camaro from my grandfather and am having trouble with the digital dash gauge cluster. The only thing that works is the fuel gauge. I wonder if someone could tell me if it is better to change the digital into analoge or leave it electronic and if so were do I get a Digital guage cluster. Thanx

Re: 85 Dash Gauge Foul
first off congrats on the car... what do mean about just the fuel gauge works... do all the gauges light up and nothing just happens or its just dark except the fuel gauge? i would try to find a replacement on ebay or look around on the forums to see if anyone has a cluster lying around. if all fails you can switch to analog but i would then go aftermarket like covans etc... but search the forums first you will be able to find alot of info about gauges
Re: 85 Dash Gauge Foul
The dash gauges are not lighting up or displaying anything. They are completely black. I have asked a mechanic friend and he said this type of a Camaro is a pain to work with when it comes to the digital guages. I want to know if the speedometer is ran by a cable and if there is any way of replacing the gauges to the originals with out spending an arm a whole lot. I have spent alot of time on the internet looking for diagrams on the electrical, but the only thing I have found is a CD at third generation. I am tempted to buy it to see if that could help. Any suggestions?

The digital gauges in your car ARE original and they are run from an Electric Speedo sending unit in the tranny - not a cable.
I've written about converting the digital set-up to the "regular" analog set-up more than once so rather than re-type all that; I'd ask that you please
for it.
I can also help out with replacement parts and diagnosis - if you want more info - just send me a PM.
