need help! 91 tbi to 89 tpi ecm

you guys know best,

Im swapping a 89 TPI into a 91 TBI equipped camaro. I need to wire the VSS but from what I've read the TBI VSS buffer box is a yellow box located by the ECM on the passenger side. The 89 ECM is wired to the VSS buffer box behind the dash somewhere. Is the signal output useable from the 91 for the 89 ECM? If so how do I go about wireing it? Is it plug and play?

Thanks.

this is kind of a weird one. the electric vss from your 91 trans sends a much higher pulse per mile compared to the 89. So the short answer is no the 89 ecm wont know what is going on when you wire your electric vss up to it. The only solution I see for you is to get a signal converter box that will take your electric vss ppm and convert it back to around 2000ppm for the 89 ecm.

The Dakota Digital SGI 5c box will take care of this for you, just wire the vss right into it and then you can split it sending one wire to your 89ecm, and send another wire to your 91 speedometer. They are around $75 on ebay.
