FYI on Hatch Pull-Down

After testing everything and coming to the conclusion that everything going to the hatch pull-down was working properly, I pulled off the switch that is attached to the motor to determine when the trunk is up or down. I learned the following:
  • There are four pins going in to the switch
  • There are two pins coming out from the switch to the motor
  • In both positions, you SHOULD have a connection between ONE of the pins going to the motor and ONE of the pins going out of that switch
  • Corrosion inside switches suck
I disassembled the switch by using a dremel to remove the heads from the rivets, and wishing I had an itsy-bitsy torx for the remaining screw which I may have taken off with a dremel. Once it was disassembled, I found a large amount of corrosion on one of the contact pads in the switch which I cleaned of. I then reassembled the switch using 10/40 screws and nuts, as well as superglue for good measure.

Once this was done, the pull-down worked flawlessly. If anybody else has similar issues, use a continuity tester to find out if there is a position on the switch where a pin going to the motor is not connected anywhere; if so you either need a new switch, or you could do what I did. Hopefully it doesn't fall apart on me....
