383 Whent dead

Hey guys,

Just bought a Camaro yestarday with a basicly new 383 Stoker in it. 1984 z28. It runs absolutely perfect and is an awsome car. Well I was driving home today in the rain when all of a sudden the car just shut down....After trying to jump the car incase battery or altrenator died nothing happened. The lights, signals, speedometer etc all work but there seems to be a problem in some part of the ignition. The car obviously died when it was running, so this shouldnt have to do with the starter, but it won't turn over or click at all. Just got it back to my driveway. Im sure this is a basic wiring thing but Im just now learning about cars and could really use some help!

Just to be clear when I turn the key half way all the basic electronics in car works but when I click it further to engage starter nothing happens.

Thanks alot for any help

Re: 383 Whent dead

Actually one change in this all is that I cant get anything up with the key but when I turn on the lights all the basic electric things light up....So basicly the key does nothing.

It doesn't crank over at all, may wanna check your starter & tap it with a hammer. Also you said you drove in the rain, check your elcetrical to see if they got wet or has moisture in it. Like the cap & rotor, starter conections, battery connections, make sure battery is fully charged. Thats all I can think of, hope this helps. If electrical is wet their is an electrical spray you can use or be gheto like me & use good ole wd40.

Re: 383 Whent dead

sounds like a loose wire at the starter. All sorts of loose ends like that are sometimes left after a rebuild.

Re: 383 Whent dead

Would a lose wire somewhere in the ignition cirtut cause NOTHING to happen when the key is turned? Like no normal beeps or anything? Im going to start checking these things now.

Thanks
