heres one for ya

87 gta keeps overheating alt. my pontiac keeps overheating the alt and causing the berrings to squeel, now it could be that i have been ovetighting the belt but the last one i put on i tried to adjust it properly and it would squeel when i first started the motor then i tightend it up to where it would stop and then the alt it self started to squeel, any suggestions

I don't have a tensioner just the v belt setup i sure do wish i did though that would take the guess work out of it

Replace the Altinator...

You could whop out the bearings if you overtignened it causing it to heat up... Remove the belt and check to see how well it spins...

i ve done that in the past but after i break down the alt the berring seems fine one thing i have noticed is that sometimes it looks like the armature rubs the coil which shouldn't be happening, ive got an extra alt i think im gona take the diodes and the harness connector out and try mounting them externaly to the fender with a copper heat sink instead of using the casing as a heat sink and try to keep the heat from the housing and the berrings
