Alt Shorting out

Heyo all. I have got my 2nd High output alt installed in the same month and now I am pretty sure the 2nd one has shorted out. (I am now getting 9v when driving all the time and its quite scary at night time with extremely dim lights)

The first alt I had installed I took it back and the installer said it was shorted out.. "hmmp I have no clue what happened" so they installed another. Now it happened again after maybe 2 weeks. I have yet to even hook my amps or subs up yet. All I have is my power/ground wires hooked up and taped off ready for my amp.

The first alt shorted when all the wires were stock wires. Now it has done the same but all that is different that I know im my electrical is I did the Big 3. All 4 Gauge wires. (I left the stock posative and a 4 guage wire on the alt because I do not want to remove/cut OEM wires just yet)

Any advice would be awsome I am getting tired of going back to the Alt shop and talking to the retards there.

Also I have two amps I would like to hook up as soon as I fix this problem. One amp is a 1000 watt mono amp and the other is 300 watts. Would a 140amp alt be good enough for this amount of wattage?

Re: Alt Shorting out

The alt is a Delco Remy 140 amp Alt. Pretty sure it is the CS-144 model (not self exciting)
When using this alt should my installer change the wiring harness for this Alt to work? Because I am pretty sure that my wiring harness is just stock.
