Digital cluster problem

I have a 87 GTA. It had an analog cluster, it was replaced with the digital one (I think it looks cool). Anyway, I'm having a couple issues with it that I can't work out. I was hoping maybe someone here would have some insight or maybe someone else did this swap and can help. Keep in mind, I didn't change the whole dash and harness, just wired the digital cluster connectors in place of the old analog cluster ones.

-If you turn the headlights on and move the dimmer wheel all the way up to the top, power is somehow getting in the ignition circuit, the fuel pump kicks on and the gauges turn on as if I'm going to start the car. It does this WITHOUT the key in the ignition or turned on.

-The cluster barely lights up now. Also, even with the lights off, the other stuff in the car (shift indicator, radio, heater, etc) all light up.

I'm hoping that this is just some kind of simple wiring glitch, but I don't know. The car didn't do this when the analog cluster was in; all was well with the car. I really hope this can be worked somehow; I love the digital cluster and would love for the thing to work and light up as it should. Thanks for any help!
