Re: OBD 1 to OBD 2 Conversion
why would you want to do this? I have OBD2 on two of my cars and i HATE it with a passion, but if you still want to convert it i would bet the easiest way would be to find a camaro that is 96 model or newer and take everything you need from it like the obd computer, oxy sensors, engine control module, catalyitic convertors, etc... seems the easiest way i could think of.

Re: OBD 1 to OBD 2 Conversion
or you could do what i and many other members on this board have done - buy the conversion wiring harness, a specific obd II conputer, new distributor, new coil, new coil module, new oxygen sensors, and a crank sensor (i think thats it) and do the swap outlined in the sticky in the tpi section. all thats left after that is tuning
and btw - i love my obd II camaro (or express van according to the new computer)

Re: OBD 1 to OBD 2 Conversion
What are the benefits of going to the OBD2 system? The main things I can think of are the faster speed of the computer and the sequential firing of the injectors as opposed to batch firing.

Additional Benefits of the 01-02 LS1 PCM System
basically the chart said the 01-02 ls1 pcm does: Sequential Fire, Mass Air Flow, Speed Density, 4L60E Control, and 4L80E Control.
my tuning is not completely done and i can already tell it just has overall better manners. anything else just ask and i'll try to answer
- Optional Speed Density Only Mode
- Improved Fuel Economy (Compared to the TPI ECM)
- Supercharger and Turbo Control
- Supports 1000hp Engines
- Uses All GM Electronics

Re: OBD 1 to OBD 2 Conversion
I was looking for something else when I came across this. Here is something else you get. If you are in an accident, the police can plug into your OBD II site and download you speed as well as everything else your system was monitoring at the time it happened and for some time before, including breaking. Some states are even allowing for the downloading of information from the OBD II system for smog approval.
BUT THE BEST PART IS THIS - AND ITS ON THE WAY - THE POLICE WILL BE ABLE TO PLUG INTO YOUR SYSTEM AND WILL BE ABLE TO TELL IF YOU WERE SPEEDING AND THEN GIVE YOU THE TICKET, EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOT SEE IT. They will just be able to say they saw you do something and as part of a "reasonable" stop, and consistent with the Supreme Court ruling that everything in the passenger compartment can be searched, they will just take a look at what you have been doing for the last hour or two.
they can also trace where you have been.
what you really need is a power shutoff valve to the computer which will shut it down for 60 seconds if you are ever stopped or you get into an accident and wipe out the history.
and yes i am an attorney and i practice in the area of criminal law.

Re: OBD 1 to OBD 2 Conversion
thats a load of bs you should be able to do whatever you want to with your car you payed for it out of your pocket, that means when they hook up to it and see youve been on the dragstrip they can ticket you for that too i guess, i used to know a guy with a f250 diesel he said if you ran it above 100 mph it would shut the truck down and the ford place had to get it started back in which case they would ask why were you speeding that bad? INVASION OF PRIVACY ON PERSONAL PROPERTY is all i have to say it may not stick up in court but that should be against the law.
BTW love the switch idea.
