re-wiring fan speed switch???

My 1992 Camaro shorted out or something and the plug that goes into the fan speed switch melted then hardened and it covered all the metal so now i can't plug it in. Would there be a problem with just cutting that plug off then soldering the corresponding wires to the metal pieces on the back of the switch? I can't find just the plug anywhere. i would have to buy a new wiring harness, which i don't need. Any advice?
