EST code, because of cowl hood?
since i put my hood on my car and painted it, i've killed a distributer, replaced it, and now maybe an EST module....
I started the car, it ran fine, then started running rough, and the check engine light came on. Then i had to adjust the throttle body screw to keep the car idling without dying....
and then a few days later (i think after it dried out) the code went away, and the car worked fine....
any ideas?
the hood i have, doesnt have weather stripping on top of the firewall, could this be my problem?

The hood itself isn't going to set a code, there's no sensor telling the ECM what hood is on the car. However, if it is letting rain in, then maybe your hood is the problem. You mentioned "after it dried out", I guess you mean the distributor? If that's the case, then your problem is solved- close off the hood scoop.

It's just a coincidence. You might have accidentally knocked a few things around while installing the hood.

Boss, i'm not a moron, i know that the a piece of fiberglass on top of my car isn't going to affect the current running through the wiring diagram........
i'm using the ram air 1 hood from hawks, if anyone else has this hood, please let me know if you've had the same type of problems that i'm describing, or anyone else with an aftermarket hood that lacks a piece of weatherstripping across the top of the firewall

I wasn't trying to say you were a moron, but after I re-read your post I got what you were trying to say. I thought you were saying parts of your engine were getting wet and drying out. My bad. Dakine is probably right, just a coinkydink. Although if it rains and your hood's not sealing your engine bay at the cowl, you may have a wet distributor and a dead car.

well ok then, i mean maybe i didnt word the first post the best way possible, but what i meant was that the aftermarket hood doesnt have a spot for weatherstripping, and since i've had the car since 2003, and never had a problem with the ignition, especially the distributer and the EST module (which is located right next to the wiper motors on the drivers side of the firewall) i figured the hood might be allowing more rain into the engine bay than usual. i wonder how i could troubleshoot this problem.
something that comes to mind, is shooting the EST module with water and seeing if the check engine light comes on again, but that seems ridiuclous, and last resort-ish lol

i still have this problem, any ideas? i chagned my ignition module, but i still have a code
i've been reading things about the code 42 being hard to get rid of, and resetting the computer a lot to get rid of it? the car's running fine, it just has a code....
