computer in my 92 rs

i just bought a Data911 Ruggedized Mobile Touchscreen 12VDC Computer off ebay. its a similar style to the ones in cop cars. so its made to be in a car and runs off same power as a car i plan on installing an odb1 program reader on to it so i can view the info from me ecu...i know it might b pointless now but im hopeing itlll help me in the future when my mods get more indepth.

my problem is i dont want to wire the computer to the car batery..it has some electric problems as is..nothing major but theres way to many splices in it already. in additon my fan is wired with out a switch strigt to the alternator so my batery...so leaving the batery on drains power fast.(the fans constantly spinning when the cars on)

im thinking to wire the comp. to its own batery in the trunk.im going to put the computer itself back there too and run the datta cabel from the ecu to the trunk. i know how i want to mount the touch screen and run the touch screen wire and datta cabel to teh back of the car. but i dont know how to hook the batery and computer together or how to maintain the batery.

any sugestions would be extremly valued. no matter how cool the touch screen will look in the car with out it getting power it wont b much cooler then a broken cd player

Fix your fan so that it comes on with the thermostat as it originally did.
Fix any other wire mess that you may have.
Hook computer up to the Brown acc. wire off of the key switch and this should be adequate. I have found that fixing the little B.S. things go a long way, especially if you are going to add more mods. IMO

i agree with fixing your wiring.
mine was a mess when i got the car, but with a little work, i have at least fixed the fans and a few other things.

to get the fans working right, you could hook it up the way they are supposed to be or do as i did and hook a fan relay up to a 12v source that is only hot when the ignition is on.
there are many available under the hood if you know how to look for them.
