door locks not working right

had the problem since i bought the car. my door locks dont work when i hit the button. First off when i press the unlock button i have to hit it about 10x to get it to unlock completely. I think it might need some wd-40 or something but locking is the problem. When i hit the lock button nothing happens. No pop or click from the actuator in the locking mechanism. Anyone have any ideas why the doors wont lock.

Re: door locks not working right

First pull the door panels and check the linkages in the doors, make sure there not rubbing on something, have crap in the hinges ect, wd40 is ok, but something like Vaseline or some kinda gel like lubricant that will last a while will be better.

When your in there, hit the switches, if the motor is not making noise you can pull the connector on the motor, hook it up to a multimeter, and hit your switch, should see it jump to 12v

If it does not, check your wires, and switches, maybe a switch went bad, but if both are doing it, id check the wiring.

Check to make sure the rivets that hold everything are tight.

Give the slides a good cleaning with wd-40 and silicon lube before tearing the doors apart. It may be just a build up of gunk over the years, same thing happened to me.

Re: door locks not working right

now that it is getting dark ill tell you my progress. got everything working great as for the locking and unlocking by touching the wires. my power door lock switches decided not to work at all. my drivers side never worked so i just cut it off. my passenger switch would only unlock and the locking button did nothing. i tried the passenger on the drivers side and same thing it would just unlock.
As for getting everything to work a good greasing and wd-40 did the trick. I'm going to get a couple new switches for the doors and wire them up hopefully that will finish the job.
