wires melting, what is this switch?

i noticed a burn smell in the car come to find out i have 3 wires that are melting and hot, problem is i can't figure out what the switch does. car is a 91 rs 5.7 auto. my 88 doesn't have this switch so im puzzled. the wiring is a bit of a mess which i would like to fix. these 3 wires are melting, hot and i can smell the burnt, im afraid of causing a fire or something please help....

switch is located near the drivers side kick panel towards the back, heres a pic

that switch does not belong to that car.
thats a high beam switch from a older style car.
I would start by tracing the wires and finding out what the po did and why.

the wires apperantly go to the lheadligth switch or at least thats where the current is drawn from for the switch. The high beam switch on the stterring colum is broke maybe this switch was rewired for the high beam switch no way of knowing since the switch does nothing when clicked on. Im also havign a problem with my headlights they seem to work off and on periodically, anyone know where i can locate the relay, i've checked all the fuses and they all are all good, please help i need my headlight i can only drive during the day lol
