fuel pump test?

I have a 91 camaro it its 305 tbi. The car died out of no where today when i was on the highway. I have ran the car out of gas several times because my gas gauge doesnt work. Anyway when i turn the engine over no gas comes out of the tbi. I was wondering if there is a simple way to test the fuel pump before i replace it. My manual shows a fuel pump test connecter but idk how to test it any info will help thanks.

p.s there is gas in the tank.

Re: fuel pump test?

Have you checked the INJ fuses yet? It might be as simple as that.

I don't think TBI units have a fuel pressure test port. You could disconnect the supply line on the front of the engine (driver side) and put the line in a gas can and turn the key on. If fuel is shooting into the gas can, your fuel pump is at least giving you a good flow (which doens't necessarily translate into pressure, though).

You will need to find out why there's no gas coming out of the injectors. That can have several reasons, fuel pump being only one of them:
- INJ fuse
- distributor
- VATS
- ECM
- FPR
- fuel pump

If you spray starting fluid into the intake/TB, does the car start? That would mean that you have spark and the chance that the distributor is bad would be lower.

Hope this helps.
