Temp guage and tach haywire

Hi all,

Very similar problem to itsthepits post, however I got 2 weird issues with the guage cluster.

1. The temp guage works fine when the car is completely cold, however once the car is stopped and restarted, the guage doesn't seem to work. By this I mean if she was running temp (~220F) then turned off, when I restart (say after 5 minutes) the temp guage reads about 100F, yet I know this not to be true !

2. I have a MSD6AL ignition and the tach reading is way out. At idle (currently 550rpm in drive) the tach reads near to 100 rpm and at 3000 rpm (using a timing light to verify so near enough) the tach reads nearly 4500 rpm.

On the tach issue, MSD have not been overly helpful, they said to by a filter thingy, I did, made no difference. Went back to them and no reply (about 2 months ago now). Any ideas ?

On the temp guage issue I have replaced the sender and checked all electrical connections (i.e. 400 grit, contact cleaner etc on all electrical connections - guage, body connector, replaced the sender connection you name it I've tried it !)

I don't want to replace the dash with aftermarket guages (don't have the spare cash at moment) and I have tried another dash unit (seen the replacement working in the donor car) with the same results. Even put my dash into another car and it works fine, so I'm reasonably confident that the cluster is ok. Difference is that the donor car doesn't have an MSD ignition.

Any ideas ??
