Re: distributor

depends. I dont think your camaro supports the advance deal. also does your wiring harness have a 4 prong terminal? is your camaro' original distributor computer controlled? All this comes into factor because of the ignition system. was your Camaro's old distributer controlled by your ECM? Im not too familiar about your year and sub-model of your Camaro. Other than all this other junk I typed, yes it will drop right in without any issues. Check out the issue that I was having with my distributer in this very message board.

Re: distributor

well we went ahead and ordered the accel one, its HEI with vaccum advance, its says that it fits up to 1982 ......yeah, the current one has the 4 prong.......we figure that we can just bypass that since all of the electrics for the original carb are unhooked.....we would like to end up just yanking all the unused wires out......should we have a problem not using the 4 prong?.......

Re: distributor

If your gonna use your ECM in your car, you will need to connect the 4 prong wiring harness to your distributer because its main purpose is to advance the spark to give you optimum power. Now this distri that you bought hopefully has the 7 prong ignition module (look at picture below).
This module is for the wiring that hangs out of the distributer (look at picture below).
The distributer that you ordered more than likely wont come with the second set of wires (4-prong) because it is a seperate part. If you do happen to recieve the distributor without the 7 prong ignition module, then you will have to buy the 7 prong serately and youll have to modify the pick up coil wires to fit properly when you replace the 4 prong ignition module because the original pick up coil terminals are going to be to big. You should go to a gm dealer and take pictures of what you are planning to do because you will be in a world of mess if you take out the wires for the ECM while running a carb. Remember, the ECM doesnt just control the distributer, it recieves data from all the sensors that are in the car, then it adjusts the timing in the distributer, oxygen sensor, and all the way down to the fuel injectors. if it sounds to confusing, let me know and ill type it in detail with pictures.

Re: distributor

well, we plan on just ripping the ecm out......it has an edelbrock carb in it with no sensors hooked up anyway......my g/fs dad was told we should be able to bypass the ecm with this dizzy since its for older years

Re: distributor

go for it. keep track of the wires just in case the new set up doesnt work. Let me know the results when you drop in the dizzy.
