Its been getting harder and harder to turn my key to start I have to move and jiggle the key for about 30 seconds before it will allow me to turn the key to start, I have no problem going to any of the other positions though, How hard is it to switch out the ignition cylinder?

 

Fairly easy if you have the tools or alittle bit of an imagination. @ things that youll have trouble with 1 pulling the steering wheel, 2 depressing the plate the locks the steering whell from turning without the key. Other than that a few screws and it just slides out.

 

When I had that problem on a Sunday morning when the key finally would not turn, I called a AAA locksmith. After he checked the igntion cylinder and my spare keys, the conclusion was they were wore out. Replaced the cylinder with a new one with new keys and was gone in less then 20minutes (did NOT remove the steering wheel) total cost $75.00. Problem corrected and that was over a year ago. My opinion is you can be the DIY type and pull your hair out for a day or watch someone for 20minutes who had the tools, correct parts and knew what he was doing..

 

how did he change a lock cylinder without removing the wheel?

 

hey i just got a 1986 camaro with a 92 v8 5.7 liter engine in it . the car was running really crappy so i had to change firing order on the car it was running alot better.. but still wasnt right about a week later i discovred the smog silinoid was disconnected from the terminal where it goes into the top of the engine also the electric was not pluged into the conponent. i did some research and found out the correct way to hook it up .. i started and drove the car about 5 blocks car seamed to be running better then ever smooth and more power . after i turned the car off and tryed to start it up the next day .. car does not start .. as u hold the exnition and pump the gas the engine gets slowly to full running speed as if its running and when i let go of the exnition it turnes off as quick as i let go ?? i also tryed removing the smog silinoid back to how i org found it still same story any suggestions ?? thanks

 

well i swapped steering columns and not my door buzzer stays on when the door is open and the key isn't in the ignition and the internal mechanism for the wiper switch is completely toast so, im pretty much back to pulling a steering column apart again, but I can start my car now,

whatamidoing, is your car carb'd or fuel injected?

 

My guess is he (locksmith) knew what he was doing and had the right tools.
As I said before 20minutes from the time he pulled up to when he left.
