code 46 no start when wet????

my car will not start when it gets wet(security light comes on)... due to rain, early morning due, or washing it. so i pulled out the ole trusty paperclip and found i have a code 46. its the vats code. anyone have any ideas on where to start looking for the problem? Oh. fyi i have resistors wired in because the keys resistor was not of correct value anymore. but i dont think the resistors are the problem cause the security light only comes on when the car gets wet. and the security light does not go out until the car drys off. i set in my work parking lot for 2 hours one afternoon because it kept raining. and the other morning the security light was on but went out in maybe 10 min. but as long as the car is dry the security light never comes on. so are there any wires for the vats that could be more likely to be in a positon to get wet that could have a naked spot on the wire?

Re: code 46 no start when wet????

I had the same problem. Funny thing is 10 years ago a mechanic bypassed VATS for me - not sure which method. We tried to start up the IROC the other day after it was raining and nothing, no starter, nada. We sprayed wd-40 in the lock cylinder and it started up. Just was looking at codes today to diagnose some overheating issues and saw a Code 46. I'm confused yet she started and has done so half a dozen times since.
