89 RS Transmission wiring question
89 RS Transmission wiring question
I purchased this car after it had sat for 4 years. It still all stock but i found a set of wires yellow and brown hanging near automatic trans. It is wired separate of the Trans control connector but part of same harness.
The connector was sheered off and only pins remain.
Any ideas on what this may be for?
Thanks,
Eric

Re: 89 RS Transmission wiring question
If the wires are yellow and purple, they are for the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) on the driver side of the tail shaft.
If you have a mechanical speedometer, you don't need the VSS, it's only for electronic speedometers.
Hope this helps.

Re: 89 RS Transmission wiring question
Thanks Lou,
I double checked and yes it was purple and i do have a cable speedometer.
I am working all the minor wiring issues as I am working towards cracking my VATS as of course it came with no keys.
I have found the proper resistor combination but not getting the starter to crank Checking the grounds and feeds to starter now. it actually cranked once but voltage gauge is reading 8 volts. battery is fully charged at 12.
Thanks again
