wrong forum? "Floppy Headlights"

The headlights on my 1987 GTA seem to want to "go down" when I encounter rough roadways (bumps). WTF? Has anyone encountered this and is it a worn out piece that helps hold the lights in position or does it have something to do with the mechanism that delivers the headlights to their up and down position? I was told that it is an "air" system that puts them up and down but haven't checked that out and the dud is a moron... Thoughts, Thanks,

Ken

The headlight motors in these cars are fully electric. You'll have to go Very old school to find vacuum controlled headlights

Sounds like your headlight motors just need a simple rebuild

Inside of the large gear there are 3 small plastic cylinders that act as bushings. Overtime the originals dry out and crumble to dust

Re: wrong forum? "Floppy Headlights"

If the motor seems solid then it could be the headlight module. On your firewall, near the brake booster, there should be a square box with wires going into the front on both sides. That controls your headlights when they go up and down. There is a relay inside it. Take it apart and make sure nothing is burned off or disconnected...

You need to rebuild the headlight actuators using the TDS 207280 $6.75 or TDS 209280 $20.25 headlight repair kits.

Could also be sloppy mechanical linkage, the lifting arm.

On my driver's side, that is what mine is. Fully up, I can wiggle it up/down about 1/2". Nothing wrong with my motor or controller. Just slop in my linkage.
